  1. First Birthdays

Published 04 Sep 08 to 14:43 | by Elisia Bargelletti | no comment

We celebrated my niece’s first birthday last Saturday. It was fun watching her dig into her pink mess cake. But no one remembers their first birthday. The reality is the party is more for the guests than the baby. At that age they can’t even open their presents. My six year old niece had a blast opening the presents for her.

Although the child does not remember their birthday, there is a wrong way to throw the party. You don’t want the child yelling and screaming because you decided to take the cake out during his nap time. Anyway, I won’t write another word because Stephanie Elliot has all the necessary tips on how to throw the perfect first birthday party.

  2. Maybe I happen to like the word “thing”!!

Published 21 Aug 08 to 15:51 | by Elisia Bargelletti | no comment

OK, so no I don’t, but what do you use when you can’t find a better word? Microsoft Word’s thesaurus generates: object, article, item, entity and gadget. But those are not the words that properly express what I want to say. I want to say “things”!

I had an English teacher in high school who literally had a fit if anyone used the words “thing” or “nice” in their essay.

I also hate the word, but I feel like I have no choice. I am trying to write a summary of the new up and coming book and I need to use that word. Or maybe you could help me?

    Here is my sentence:

Family and friends become part of the story too when your child ventures indoors, outdoors and uses the imagination to discover an abundance of things to see.

Now, I can’t use the term objects, because the child won’t be looking at objects or items or any other word Word suggested. The child is looking at insects, animals, the moon, cards,… different…THINGS!!!!

Can any of you help me before I have a melt down? Thanks.

  3. I’m Back

Published 14 Aug 08 to 10:39 | by Elisia Bargelletti | no comment

So Christian wrote this really nice blog last week for me (thank you Christian!) because I was busy and it got erased. If you’ve been on our site you probably noticed some changes. Well when we implemented those changes, the blog post somehow got erased. I’ll see if I could get it posted again.

So how do you like our changes? Have you tried ordering a book? Notice how you could review your answers at the end? I think that’s my favourite part. Please review YOUR answers carefully. You don’t want a mistake in your book, and neither do we!

There are still a few kinks we have to iron out, but the site is coming along great. If you have any questions, you can e-mail me.

  4. Where is Elisia?

Published 07 Aug 08 to 11:00 | by Christian Roy | no comment

Hi, I am Christian, the French-blogging guy at Printakid.

Elisia asked me to write her blog today. She is too busy with very important stuff. No sarcasm here. Really.

If you don’t know, she is, with Noemi the President, the only person in the office that can do everything here.

Editing, marketing, customer service, translating, storytelling, programming (some HTML and XML), book-making, book-shipping, some accounting and many other things that I don’t even know about.

So, on top of all that, we asked her to write the blog. She is that good. Everyone likes her here and I thought the entire world should know.

Look, she is blushing… How cute.

Well, I think that qualifies as a blog post. See you.

Don’t worry, Elisia will be back at her post next week.

Printakid’s first home was Christian and Noemi’s home.

Then there was the office on Beaubien street. These are the only pictures I have. You really can’t see much from them:

This is our new, big place! (If you’re wondering what those robot-looking things are on the left, they are air conditioners. It can get pretty hot in here!)

  6. Design your own Fairy

Published 24 Jul 08 to 10:32 | by Elisia Bargelletti | no comment

Janet’s daughter discovered that on the Disney website you can personalize your own fairy! Janet showed Martin and he introduced it to us at our team meeting this week.

It’s really cool. You choose the talent your fairy has first, either Light, Water, Garden or Animal. Then you choose her features, like skin tone, eye colour, hairstyle and wing type. Then you choose her outfit and accessories and then you can pose her the way you like. You can even choose her name. When you’re done, your fairy appears in a special room that you can decorate.

Now this is what separated the guys from the girls. The guys wanted to know what next? Well, isn’t that enough? You just made your own fairy, accessorized her and decorated her room. Hours of fun right there. That wasn’t enough for the guys.

But here is what you can do: You can print out your fairy, print out stationary and, if you live in the US, you can purchase a shirt with your fairy on it. I wish I lived in the States:(

The downside of the site, is that it takes a long time to load. I don’t know if it’s because of the Internet connection or because of the site, but it’s really annoying.

That’s right. The last few weeks we’ve been scrambling to move all our stuff to a new, bigger location location.

For the last 4 years, Printakid has been on Beaubien east in Montreal. Now we are on:
    2050 Dandurand, suite 203.

There are still a few things that have to be put up, but the bulk of our stuff is installed and ready to go.

  9. I’m a wizard!

Published 12 Jun 08 to 11:40 | by Elisia Bargelletti | no comment

Sometimes kids make you feel good. They say things that just make you smile.
Last Friday I was babysitting my nieces. I was making paper chains with the 6-year-old and she asked me a question (I can’t remember what now) and I answered her. She replied “Zia Elisia, you’re a wizard. Miss Noreen (her teacher) says wizards know everything and you know everything.”
Well that makes me want to get her an extra special gift for her birthday! It’s on Saturday but we are celebrating the week after because of a wedding. That gives me extra time to get her something.
Last year I made her a photobook (if you don’t know by now I’m obsessed with photobooks from Blurb) with pictures of her with family and friends from when she was born until the age of 5.
Everyone loved it except her. She said, “Zia Elisia, this is not what I wanted.” But a while back I caught her looking through my copy, looking closely at every page.
I wonder what I’ll get her. At one point she wanted walkie talkies, but kids change their minds so often. I wish my wizard skills could help me. Do you have any ideas?

  10. Personalized steak???

Published 05 Jun 08 to 09:18 | by Elisia Bargelletti | no comment

Can anyone please explain to me why any one would want a personalized barbecue branding iron? I going to generalize here and assume this is more for men. How badly do you want your guests to know you’re the one who cooked that steak? Especially since we already know you cooked it, you were at the barbecue the whole time.

Quite a few companies are selling this like Walmart and this company called Blacksmith and others (just type in personalized branding iron in Google.

Ok, Ok, I’ve thought about it and the gift doesn’t seem so stupid. I can actually picture myself giving it to my dad for his birthday or father’s day (June 15, by the way). I’m sure he’d get a kick out of it. However this doesn’t mean I’ll buy it. I’ll have to think about it some more.
